    Throughout the Orre region, stories are still told of a legendary hero who lived not so long ago, a former member of the notorious Team Snagem who uncovered a plot by the evil Cipher Syndicate to corrupt the hearts of Pokemon, transforming them into little more than living super weapons, for the purpose of total domination of the Orre region.  The sound of clashing steel rent the night air, sounding loud over the rumble of the storm raging in the skies above. Lightning struck the ground with a tumultuous clap of thunder, its shimmering white bolt tinted red and sinister by the smoke that filled the air from the battle that raged across the countryside. The city of Alverad, once a shining beacon of beauty and prosperity, lay in ruins beneath the feet of two clashing armies. The gleaming marble buildings of the nobles were charred black by the uncontrollable inferno that swept through the city and the comely homes of the citizens and peasants were burnt to ashes.
